Skotefest Special Event Volunteers

We're looking for volunteers to help with our signature annual fundraising event, SkoteFest! The 2026 festival will be held in the Burin Peninsula area of Newfoundland August 28-30.

Who this is a good fit for

  • People who support the mission, vision, and values of Camp Skote and believe in building something bigger than themselves
  • Volunteers with the willingness, time and ability to help in one of the workstreams mentioned above
  • People who can help with the planning (remote) and delivery (in-person) of SkoteFest
  • For in-person roles, volunteers must be able to pass a background screen paid for by Camp Skote

What this looks like

  • Flexible schedule leading up to the event and/or hands-on experience bringing SkoteFest to life
  • Works alongside the Board of Directors and festival steering committee
  • In person roles must be generally available during the last week of August, 2026.

Director of Education & Programs

Help Shape the Heart of Camp Skote! We're seeking a volunteer Director of Education & Programs to lead the development of our outdoor education programs, workshops, community learning experiences, and future camp activities.

This role will help shape how Camp Skote delivers meaningful, safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor education experiences for adults, youth, families, and communities. This role works closely with the Board, volunteers, community partners, and future Charter leaders to help translate Camp Skote’s mission into real-world experiences.

This role may be a great fit for someone who:

  • Has a relevant background in education, recreation programming, environmental education, youth programs, community programs, camp leadership, experiential learning, etc. Passion, leadership, judgment, and alignment with the mission matter more than titles.

What this looks like

This role serves as a Board leadership position responsible for helping guide Camp Skote’s educational direction and program quality. The Director of Education & Programs also chairs the Programs & Education Committee. This is a flexible volunteer leadership role. Expected involvement will evolve as Camp Skote grows through different development phases. Some periods will be quiet. Others will be “all hands on deck.” That’s startup nonprofit life.

  • Can be in person, hybrid, or fully virtual / remote
  • Flexible schedule; the board of director meets monthly or more frequently as required

Marketing Lead

We're looking for a creative, community-minded volunteer to help lead our social media, branding, and digital storytelling efforts as we grow one of Newfoundland & Labrador’s most ambitious outdoor education and community initiatives.

We are building more than a camp. We are building a long-term community organization focused on outdoor education, environmental stewardship, inclusion, and reconnecting people with nature through accessible programming and experiences.

Who this is a good fit for

This role may be a great fit for someone who:

  • Is a creative storyteller, marketer and community builder.
  • Has a background in marketing, communications, branding, content creation, social media management, graphic design, photography, videography, community management
  • Experience with Discord, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Shopify, and supporting nonprofits a plus
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Wants to help build and strengthen a growing nonprofit in a meaningful way

Administrative Assistant

We're looking for an administrative assistant to support the Camp Skote board of directors with day-to-day administrative efforts.

What we need help with

  • Communications and general inquiries
  • Recordkeeping and document organization
  • Tracking follow-ups and supporting board initiatives
  • Assisting with events, programs, and volunteer coordination
  • Supporting directors with portfolio-specific administrative needs

Accounting Assistant

We’re looking for two experienced Accounting Assistants to support Camp Skote’s financial administration as we continue building strong systems and move toward registered charity status.

What we need help with

  • Supporting financial systems setup and organization
  • Bookkeeping and financial administration
  • Preparing draft budgets and internal financial reports
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Assisting with financial processes, controls, and reporting needs

Who this is a good fit for

This role may be a great fit for someone who:

  • Is a resident of Canada
  • Has strong accounting experience and enjoys working with numbers and accurate financial records
  • Is detail-oriented, organized, and dependable
  • Is comfortable working independently in a remote volunteer role
  • Wants to help build strong financial structure within a growing nonprofit

Preferred experience includes:

  • Canadian CPA designation
  • Hands-on experience with Canadian IFRS / ASNPO
  • Nonprofit financial experience
  • QuickBooks experience

What this looks like

  • Approximately 10 hours per month
  • Fully virtual / remote within Canada
  • Participation in periodic meetings with the Treasurer
  • Works under the oversight of the Treasurer and Board of Directors
  • Focused on financial support, reporting, and internal accountability
  • No signing authority or independent financial decision-making responsibilities
